I’m Quirky, a Homesteader, Hunter, Cook, Honest Omnivore, Truth Seeker, Winer Lover, Jounalist, and Professional Dog Petter.
I call myself a “honest omnivore” because, while I do enjoy the base of a plant-based diet, I regularly add meat, eggs and goat dairy harvested from my own homestead, local fishing or a seasonal hunt on the family farm in central Ohio. Any fish is flash-frozen and shipped from humane, sustainable sources; however, the wines I enjoy are seemingly sourced from the local store shelf…. hmmm…. imagine that. If you invite me to dinner, I’ll gladly enjoy whatever’s on your menu with glee, but I should confess that I have been known to enjoy the occasional McDonald’s breakfast burrito. Yeah, I’m all kinds of contradiction, and it makes for a stronger “Quirky.” Yes, I prefer to grow and harvest my own food from my homestead which I prepare for my table, avoiding store-brought proteins in Styrofoam trays. I like to travel when I can and have had my passport stamped by global eats—think haggis in England, fried crickets in Thailand, steaming pho in Vietnam, and the juiciest burgers at Ray’s Place in Kent. I’ve been called a fearless home cook and have been told my culinary curiosity knows no bounds.
I lose my keys, phone and glasses, daily, like it’s my full time job, I use my 4-cylinder Kia Soul like it’s a farm truck, my default footwear are rubber farm boots and my home hums with the aroma of endless curries crafted with toasted spices, maybe a little dust and hay from my farm on the floor, and a space at my table for friends and family for a Thursday Night Dinner, loving known to many as “TND.”
Did you know that I’m known as “Squib Girl” — one of the original documentarians of the Wizard Rock (Wrock) movement, capturing the heart, soul, and magical chaos of the Harry Potter fan community during its golden age. You can find out more here: www.squibgirl.com
